December 8 – January 31 – "Portrait of Maquoketa" by Artist Rose Frantzen – 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Ohnward Fine Arts Center, 1215 E. Platt St. – Maquoketa
“Portrait of Maquoketa” will be exhibited for the first showing of the 180 - 12x12 oil paintings from life of local residents of the town of Maquoketa, Iowa from December 8th 2007 through January 31st 2008. These paintings were painted on location in a Main Street storefront by Nationally-Known Realistic Impressionist oil painter artist Rose Frantzen from Maquoketa. Daily hours, including Saturday and Sunday will be from 1pm-5pm at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center. Closed Christmas & New Years. Join Jackson County Conservation Board staff at the Dubuque eagle watch. They will be assisting inside the river center with activities.
January 27 - Winter Fun Day – 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. - Hurstville Interpretive Center – 18670 63rd St. – Maquoketa
Winter is here and its time to have some fun! Join us for an afternoon of winter activities, including looking at snowflakes under a microscope, making a winter craft, and learning how to identify animal tracks. Snowshoeing at 2:00 pm- limited number of snowshoes available, so get here early! Warm refreshments served. Cost $1/person

February 10 - ‘A Salute to Songbirds’ Exhibit Grand Opening – 3:00 p.m. - Hurstville Interpretive Center – 18670 63rd St. – Maquoketa
“A Salute to Songbirds” is a traveling exhibit about America’s fastest growing sport—bird watching! To kick off the grand opening, Dr. James Pease, Extension Wildlife Specialist at Iowa State University, will discuss Neotropical migrants and the challenges they are facing. Following the program, participants will explore the exhibit and get a chance to interact with all the hands-on activities. Stay for the Songbird Fundraiser Supper! Discount prices for program and supper—adults $7 ($6 in advance) and children $3 ($2 in advance) Cost: $2/person or $5/family.

To help us celebrate even more there will be a soup supper fundraiser to raise money for the Friends of Jackson County Conservation. The money raised will be used to develop a self-guided trail throughout the Hurstville marsh and prairie. Tickets will be available in advance, adults $5 & children $2. If you want to bring your own reusable tableware you will receive a $.50 discount on your dinner! Cost: $6 Adult, $3 Children under 12, 5 & under Free.

Everyone and anyone who has volunteered or helped Jackson County Conservation are invited to attend. This will be a great chance to meet other volunteers and hear their stories. Please R.S.V.P. by February 8th if you plan to attend.

Hooting for a good time? Join Naturalists for a program on owls and learn how to tell one hoot from another. Then head outside to do some owl calling!

Join us for the story- In the Snow: Who’s Been Here, followed by an activity on identifying tracks. This program is free and for pre-school age children and their parents.

This special event is just for the fun of it for those 50 years and above. Activities planned include dancing, dance lessons, music, dining, fashion show, bingo, exhibits and seminars. Free admission – refreshments – door prizes – giveaways and lots of fun!!! Meal tickets cost $6.00 and are available at the Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce, Dick’s Supermarket, Quad-City Times (Davenport) or purchase on line at www.qctimes.com/seniorexpo. Entertainment will be provided while sampling appetizers, soups, salads, casseroles and desserts. Tickets are $12.00 for adults & $5 for children 5-12. Proceeds from this event will go to the Delmar Lions, Maquoketa Kiwanis, Maquoketa Optimist and Maquoketa Rotary Clubs. Tickets are available from any of the club’s members.
March 2 - BIRD HOUSE WORKSHOP - 1:00 p.m. - Hurstville Interpretive Center – 18670 63rd St. – Maquoketa
Bird houses are a wonderful addition to your yard & can increase the success of seeing birds around your home. Materials & information are provided. Please bring a hammer. Cost: Wren- $5, Bluebird- $7, Kestrel-$16.

Join us for the story- Don’t Stomp that Bug! Learn about ants, beetles, dragonflies, honeybees, & lady bugs and discover them outside! This program is free and is for pre-school age children and their parents.
March 15 - DUCK WADDLE - Sunrise - Green Island State Wildlife Area
Join Dubuque Audubon Society for the spring waterfowl count at Green Island. See if you can identify one waddle from another! This program is free and open to the public. Meet at the Blakes parking lot at Green Island.
March 30 - BIRD HIKE - 1:00 p.m. - Hurstville Interpretive Center – 18670 63rd St. – Maquoketa
Join Dubuque Audubon Society for a bird hike around Jackson County. Birding will begin at the Hurstville Marsh and then continue to the Maquoketa Caves State Park and Buzzard Ridge Wildlife Area. This program is free and open to the public.
